The Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenpora RI), and PB Esports Indonesia are presenting the biggest esports tournament at the end of this year with the title of the 2020 KONI Cup. The tournament provides a total prize of IDR 200 million (USD 14,100). The 2020 KONI Cup shows that the government, through the Monistry of Youth and Sports, KONI and PB Esports Indonesia, provides positive support to sports that use video game media, or esports, in Indonesia. The general chairman of KONI, Lt. Gen. TNI (Ret.) Marciano Norman, said that KONI and PB Esports Indonesia are providing fair and equitable opportunities for esports fans throughout the country through this tournament.
Officially supported by Garena, the 2020 KONI Cup is a Free Fire esports tournament with its qualifying phase and the grand final will be held throughout November 2020. There will be two qualifying regions:, namely the western and eastern qualifications which will take place simultaneously from November 17-22, followed by a grand final on November 28-29. The top three teams from each of the western and eastern qualifiers have the right to advance to the main event round to compete with the 6 best Indonesian Free Fire teams who received direct invitations.
