China’s Ministry of Industry and Info Technology (MIIT) announced regulations regarding preloaded software on smartphones. Evidently, it is common in China that an Android phone will come with 20-30 preloaded apps that cannot be uninstalled, and yet they can share user information or even lead to charges on the user’s bill without their true knowledge. The MIIT requires a list of preloaded software apps to be published, and if the user compares his phone to the list and sees a discrepancy he can file a complaint and the situation will be resolved.
