South Korea is a video game powerhouse and was one of the first countries to embrace esports. It is home to many important game developers and publishers and the gaming scene in Korea is also well established with major events and internationally renowned tournaments. Local Korean firms are active sponsors of the gaming and esports industry including teams and tournaments. The South Korean government has actively supported the industry for two decades and recently announced a new 5 year plan to further support and grow the industry.
